February 21st, 2010I’ve been offered a new permanent job west of Birmingham. Looks like some companies are seeing a lift following the downturn after the last 18 months. It’s a newly created position & I start mid March. Been a good week.!
Test results
February 18th, 2010We’ve been running the website with 32 different versions of the homepage.
Results of first test are…
74.3% improvement with smaller non drop down menus near the top of the page.
28.4% improvement without dynamic random products shown at the top of the page.
6.17% improvement with a smaller left hand menu
Therefore we have carried out the following this evening…
Drop down menus removed.
Smaller left hand menus
dynamic listings dropped to lower section of the homepage.
Testing has now commenced on the headlines. There are several different versions of the headline now being displayed. We’ll monitor and see which converts best to a sale.
Monitoring users movements has shown of people don’t see what they’re looking for in 6 seconds, they bounce back to google. First impressions…
Personalised balloons
February 15th, 2010Personalising latex balloons has never been so popular. We’re now taking several orders per day online. We have added a new pricing structure to offer discounts for larger orders. We keep meaning to update the printed balloons area with some new ideas, examples and services. However, this keeps getting delayed with the amount of work that has been coming in from the products we currently sell.
We have some wedding fayres to attend in a few weeks and we will be using the fayre as an opportunity to introduce several new wedding products. The wedding fayres gives us a great working area to photograph and video new products for the website.
I visited the spring fair this week and met up with our major suppliers. Some great services being offered by Oaktree / Sempertex, Qualatex, Unique and Amscan.
UPDATE…
12 hours balloon printing yesterday.
Expected 12 hours again today…
I aim to get a few more examples on line this evening - but as ever subject to change depending on how busy we are.

Increase in visitors following our 2 week maintenance and update work in November.
the graph shows how every weekend we take a dip in hits, but Monday returns to busy business. The current peak is caused by heavy valentines promotion.

February 9th, 2010Multivariable Testing started today on the website. We currently testing many features of the homepage. Currently there are 32 different versions of the homepage available. When entering our website one of 32 types will appear and every element of the user cursor movement is monitored. Once the testing has completed, google should be able to tell us which version of the homepage was most successful and a winner found. From this test we should be able to maximise sales.
Google advertising started tonight as well. This will drive visitors to the website during the run-up to valentines day and help with the testing.

Valentines Products
February 9th, 2010So many people found the website yesterday looking for valentines products and left the website under 10 seconds without purchasing. Big focus on showing and finding the product under 5 seconds of jumping to the site and converting in sales. Added more valentines products to the home page. Had a few searches for wedding balloons yesterday which again jumped and left the site under 10 seconds. Another area where we need to focus in on the home page.
